TRAINING

Health and safety are our top priority

In the construction industry, the word training is most often equated with safety.

At MAPIC, we take pride in offering safety and health training to ensure our contractors and their employees take the proper steps to help assure the safety and health of everyone on a jobsite.

In the state of Ohio, the OCILB requires mechanical and plumbing contractors to attend 10-hours of continuing education in business, code, technology or safety.

MAPIC is dedicated to providing detailed safety and health training on various topics at either our partner contractor offices or our training conference room at the MAPIC office to our members. Our training center is certified through the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) of the Ohio Department of Commerce.

For those topics that require actual in-field, hands-on training (such as permit-required confined space entry), we network with various local training centers to offer our Contractors discounted rates for quality programs.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Training
The 10-Hour Construction Outreach Program was designed by OSHA to provide general safety and health awareness to construction employees. This course provides an overview of the topics presented, detailing those areas that we feel are important to pipefitters and plumbers.

This course is recommended for all employees, as apprentices will gain the entry-level knowledge they need and journeymen will be able to focus on subjects they feel need strengthening. It will help foremen and superintendents better understand supervisory responsibilities.

There is no cost for plumbers and pipefitters whose employers are contributing to the industry funds (MCI or CPI) on their behalf, or for management personnel of those companies. However, a cost will be incurred for all others taking the course.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Training
The 30-Hour Construction Outreach Program was designed by OSHA for construction foremen and supervisors.

The need for this course is becoming more prevalent, as a growing number of general contractors and construction managers require one onsite individual from every trade to have an up-to-date 30-Hour OSHA card.

This course is more comprehensive than the 10-Hour course and includes the following curriculum:

  • All of the 10-Hour+ topics, many of which are covered in more detail
  • Signs, signals and barricades
  • Hand and power tools
  • Motor vehicles, mechanized equipment and marine operations
  • Concrete and masonry construction
  • Rollover and overhead protection
  • Five group exercises
  • Certificates in the 30-Hour class and also Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Lead Awareness (2-hour) and Asbestos Awareness (2-hour Class IV)

There is a fee for plumbers, pipefitters or management personnel of those companies who are either CPCA or MCA association members. A separate fee will apply for plumbers, pipefitters or management personnel of industry fund contributing companies (MCI or CPI) or for all others.
